ARSENAL v ASTON VILLA betting preview
What Henry did was blatant like Rivaldo did in the last world cup. There was no need to do that.
If Puyol did that Henry would have been the first one to condemn him.
Tehseen.
Gerrards was a blatant dive like any other, he didnt even get touched
enuff said.
What amazes me is that you British love to jump on the bandwagon by vindicating foreigh players for diving when your own English are no better, just look at Joe Cole, Gerrard, Owen (Argentina game) and Linekar (Cameroon game).
Face it the whole world cheats, Thierry is no better or worse than others. Just look at Figo the other night he went down like he was struck by a wooden pole, funny no one is mentioning his name or Deco who is a serial diver and then there`s good old Drogba and lovely Robben.
Puyol is a very intelligent defender that knows how to defend at the highest level and he committed a foul knowing that it would have been a blatant free kick whether Thieryy play acted or not. Rivaldo got a player sent off but to kick a ball at an opponent with agression is in itself a sending off offence.
You brits need to chill out a bit and stop being so predantic.
Regards (Italy supporter) and yes we have cheats and disgraceful players too.
You should read the Spanish newspapers to see what they had to say.
Henry is Wenger's pupil - condemns what others do to them but what they do to others it's all ok.
Whatever Henry's intention, refs will be on the lookout for him and would probably be penalised even if it isn't his fault from now on.
Collina said afterwards,'I never saw Owen fall without being fouled, when I whistled the penalty I was 100% sure'.
What about the rigorino (small penalty) against Australia???????????????
as did over 10 players in the Holland v Portugal game.
But I can tell you one thing for sure this incident is not the last cheating we have seen in the world cup so either shut your traps andd turn of your tv or enjoy the big event and accept that there are players that will go to any degree to help thier respective countries.
Regards Italy to win....
Henry claimed the moral high ground, something people connected to Arsenal seem fond of doing, and was then exposed as a hypocrite. It's no big deal, Puyol did foul Henry, but not in the face. The squirming justifications that came out afterwards were just embarrassing - I was in pain, so I held my face. Utter drivel Thierry.
As the man said above; Arsenal love to point out faults in others, but are very reticent about admitting their own failings.
Henry has (in my experience) never been within a million miles of being a cheat and to me he was one of the few players in the world who could carry off that accolade. He was trying to get puyol sent off. Whether it was afters from the final where puyol gave him a kick or two is irrelevant. It was cheating, and a sad sight in the same league as that rivaldo incident.
Its unfortunate that members of every team do it. Don't think for a second that whichever team you follow isn't as guilty as the next. No matter who it is, it needs to stop.
Henry on the other hand clutched his face as if he was elbowed in the face. To me that is why everybody is having a go at him. If he fell without too much contact to win the free-kick nobody would care. Henry tried to get Puyol sent-off by feigning injury.
Finally anyone saying ridiculous things about gerrard diving to win a penalty is ok but what henry did is wrong because he wanted a player sent off is talking s**t. Would gerrard still have dived if that player who tackled him had been the last man?? Of course he would so therefore playacting like that is even more likely to have a player sent off. Cheating is cheating its either accepted or its not & if its not then its the governing football bodies that need to sort it out!!
On the original subject of Henry, I watched the game and saw the replay from the goalside camera. I think Henry pushed his right shoulder into Puyol just before he held his face. Dishonest? yes, but that's what happens in real life when something matters - like a result in the World Cup.
He could have got half the Barca team sent off in the Champions League final, the way they were hacking at him. But he chose to stay on his feet.
And what did he get. He lost the match and was even slammed by the media for apparently saying the same. They called it sour grapes.
Now, Henry has learnt his lesson. He doesnt care about people's stupid opinions anymore.
Ronaldinho is a serial diver. Gerrard has dived on more then one occasion. Rooney has dived. Terry has dived. Joe Cole has done more cheating then I can list here.
But when Henry does something everyone wants to have a go at him.
The question is this.
1.Was Puyol playing for the man or the ball?
A->He clearly cut across Henry when the ball was already with the leftback. Another unneccesary foul just to shake up Henry.
2.Would the ref had given a foul if Henry had just manfully taken Puyol's body barge?
->No. As the leftback had the ball, Henry would have just(yet again) been glaring at the ref who would have waved play on. The commentators might have had a go at him anyway for sulking.
Therin lies the answer on why Henry did what he did.
Henry is still the most honest player around and most people know that.

The FA/FIFA should show some "balls" and deal with these incidents straight after the games and should punish ALL players severely for cheating but also should be able to reduce punishments if the ref has missed something or has made an error. The ref makes a decision in a split second (linesmen don't seem to help)and so video evidence should be used or otherwise scrapped.
Come on England.
Everybody cheats – but more to the point it’s sickening to listen to the hypocritical English media. I support Chelsea and when there is an incident involving Drogba or Robben the whole world is screaming like a bunch of banchees but if it’s Joe Cole or Lampard or any other English player it’s “Ohh he went down a bit easy there”
Maradona summed it up beautifully in an interview I saw with him recently – He gave the finger on screen to Shilton re his moaning over the “Hand of God” goal in 1986 – and said you English think you are so noble – so if you had a goal line scramble and Shilton manages to fish the ball back out over the line and gets away with it, would you run up to the ref and say – “Excuse me Mr. Ref it WAS a goal”? Of course you wouldn’t – People will cheat as long as they are being allowed it – regardless of nationality – so stop being hypocrites. After all a major reason that England won the WC in 1966 was due to a goal that subsequent laser technology has proved WASN’T a goal. (I didn’t hear any winging there). The only way this will stop will be with video refs and why shouldn’t we have video refs? It’s done in Rugby – it takes 1 min and its quite exciting waiting for the result. “TRY” or “NO TRY”. It could be done in connection with penalties (i.e. dives etc) and in term of potential off side decisions leading to a goal.
But the main point is don’t be such hypocrites – everybody does it – and frankly the English media is a disgrace – all of it – from that pathetic excuse of a paper called The Sun to BBC.
Stop your pathetic winging!!! Ohh and by the way it has also been shown (only in NON English media of course) that Crouch held/pulled the defender by his dreadlocks in the first goal vs. T&T; in the 84th minute of that “classy” performance England showed in the T&T; match.
Please! Are we pulling each others hair now? Like school yard children? Pathetic!
About the Henry incident. Henry was running at absolutely full speed and Puyol just ran across him. Henry I think expected an elbow on his face and went down holding it.
He did not roll around and there was nothing premeditated about it as it happened so quickly. Even the commentators thought that Puyol had thrown an elbow at first glance.
There is a difference between what Rivaldo and Robben did. They both went down when the ball was not in play after they had time to think of what they were doing.
And Ronaldinho is a serial diver. I have seen him go down a lot of times. He even dived in the CL finals along with his Barca teammates like Deco and Van Bomel.
Robben = cheat
Gerrard = crafty scouser
I'm a Diehard Arsenal. I don't deny it.
But i won't say i'm biased.
Forget about hypocrasy, a dive, playacting is all wrong. What i didn't get is why all you blokes keep on moaning about who is justified a diver or not, getting a player sent off or not.
So much "Holier than thou" attitude.
Gerrard can do no wrong? I love that guy but sorry, i can never say he can't do no wrong.
Ronaldinho never goes down, no matter what? Excuse me, please watch more primera liga, then proceed to eat your words.
I hope and wish, but i know it will never happen, that let's just be fair. Yes, Henry did overreact and play act.
Yes, its not to be condoned and rightly we can have a go at him.
Just don't forget to have a go at YOUR OWN CLUB/TEAM/COUNTRY you support.
And who says we don't shake our heads at our own players, go read Arseblog when you can, illiterate wankers.
Last thing, WHO IS TERRY HENRY?
Sigh, how much proof that there are so many people who don't actually watch football but have sooooooo much to say.
1) He advocates so called "game-manship" and fair play.
2) He critises the refs for not taking action and players for diving (and cheating)when things don't go his way (Barcelona CL game).
3) For his smart alleck stunts on the pitch when he fouls someone (banging down players with his shoulder charge) and then goes and points to the linesman and refs with his fingers pointing at his eyes indirectly insulting them that he did no wrong and the officials got it wrong because they are blind.
4) Follows the Arsenal footballing principle of critisising other players and teams for any wrong doing but fail to see any thing wrong when their team does similar things. Viera, Pires, Ljunberg and Ebadoyor don't dive but the rest of the world dives.
Now, back to the issue.Henry did one of the most blatant dives watched by over a couple billion people worldwide watching the World Cup.If it was only viewed by a selected audience(EPL, Primera Liga, Serie A,etc.) I doubt it would be much debate as the viewing is not that high if compared to the World Cup. Furthermore, Thiery Henry has so far put up the image of "holier than thou" and "whiter than white" whenever he plays. Now with him being caught by everyonw with his classic hands clutching his face dive, who wouldn't condemn him?
Now Henry has to boil his own soup for all his hypocrisy prior to this. Who can forget him crying like a baby right after the CL Finals condemning the players and officials for their lack of fair play. I've never remembered any player on earth bitching like how he did after any major footballing finals ever. At least the rest of the world now know who the real Thiery Henry is, nothing than a beg full of shit. To cheat is one thing, but to condemn cheaters and then to do the same is the lowest you can get.
For those that have not read any other articles about Henry's dives, please click the links below. The last link shows a video of Henry's blatant dive.

clearly not very fair yourself, eh?
Who's holier than thou now.
Explain how the Arse justified their complaints after the CL final after what Eboue did. Oh n how you explain the slave trade Venger has going on in Africa

As a SPURS fan, I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with Henry's means of retribution, esspecially if we are to believe Dominech's claims that France's black players were abused by Spanish fans as they entered the stadium. Thierry Henry is one of the top sportsmen in our game and as much as it pains me that he plays for the scum, I think players like him are a rare ray of sunshine.
For everyone labelling him a cheat, imagine how YOU would feel if you had been publically humiliated in the way Aragones did to him. Imagine how you would feel watching a nation of fans racially abuse you, your family, friends and teamates. What he did was sweet poetic justice. If FIFA, UEFA or the Spanish FA aren't going to impose adequate fines or bans, then what better way to hurt them than to knock them out of the world cup? Albeit somewhat dishonestly.
Henry is no cheat. The Spaniards had it coming!
I'd personally have every footballer cheat, dive and fiegn injury if it meant that racism was eradicated.
I'd personally have every footballer cheat, dive and fiegn injury if it meant that racism was eradicated.
But seeing 'accidents' like this hurt me and hurt the name of football. there is no need to defend henry in my opinion by naming other players because gerrard did it once and henry did it other times but today it's all part of the game. i as a liverpool fan would be happy if the fa bans liverpool players who dive but then it must ban other players as well. fifa must do the same, irrelevant to the game which follows. and if they continue to do it like Joe Cole who even falls if you just yawn, they must face a lenghty ban. sometimes, it even comes from the manager but for that issisue, there is nothing that could be done really.
i hope i made it clear now but this diving issisue must stop and divers must be punished heavily and if a case like italy's penalty against the aussies happens, the team who dived must play again the game against the other team with a 1 goal difference. it's not excaggerated, it's the way things should work to save football and lure more casual viewers.
------
If Henry wanted "revenge" on Aragones, I think the best way of doing so was do the talking on the pitch and making Aragones eat his own words. By proving he is a great footballer and performing at his best and making a difference on the pitch. However, all Henry did all day during THAT match was to get caught offside god knows how many times and the icing on the cake was for him to do a dramatic fall holding his face like he was shot by someone. End of the day, I am sure it just would have proven to Aragones that Henry is nothing but a cheat, nothing less, nothing more.
Personally, I am not suprised neither am I amused by your reaction of "I'd personally have every footballer cheat, dive and fiegn injury if it meant that racism was eradicated." as Arsenal already has a team of divers and cheats over the years. Patrick Viera made it an art, Pires and Ljunberg were not too good at it I have to admit but neverthless it worked, new recruits like Eboue and Ebadayor picking up the trade and now Henry. Certainly a talented team indeed.
But you boys were creaming at the divers agaisnt villareal.
Arsenal always dive about, live with it.
I have alread posted here. I'm a Liverpool fan and I hate to see players dive, especially when they play for Liverpool because they make the club a bad name.
On Henry, you have to say that it was a terrible act and I can't see why you are defending him because if he did something worng, he did it, end of story.
I don't think Adebayor is a diver but Vieira did dive when he was at Aresnal, Henry is starting to do so as well, Pires and Ljungberg as well. Then Wenger plays it cool by saying he didn't see anything and when his players dive, he starts flaming at the referee when he doesn't give the foul. Remember the CL Final, the goal you scored must have never stood because it was a dive :(
Anyway, I think it's not fair as well to just slate Arsenal because when you look at the likes of Man. UTD, have the team is full of divers, Liverpool had divers as well (I'm a Liverpool fan, see I admit!!). Kewell used to do it repetetivly but when Benitez came, these things reduced them selves although they still happen every now and then.
Trust me, all of us have lifes but its fun taking a swipe on a hypocrite that lives a life of whiter than white. Many players do it no doubt, but none of them critisise or hurl remarks on others cheating. Have you heard of any other player/team that does it? Only Henry and of course your beloved manager Arsene 'Whinner' Wenger does it ALL the time but fail to see when they/their own team are no angels themselves. Furthermore, you'll as 'smart' supporters are the first to react whenever there is any decisions that goes against you'll by making a big hue and cry about it. Now live with that. Don't expect others to be sympathatic about you bunch of hypocrites when you'll condemn everyone else all the time. Ever heard of the pot calling the kettle black?:)
Cheers and have fun. 'We' certainly are, so with the rest of the world that saw your potato head captain do one of the most contreversial dives in this World Cup.
Long Live Mr. Potato Head @ Thiery Henry the Cheater Cock!
HAHAHAAHAHA
Long Live Mr. Potato Head @ Thiery Henry the Cheater Cock!
HAHAHAAHAHA
Henry the best player ever to play in this country? By what grounds? By goals? No doubt he's scored many goals but you can't judge someone just by his goal tally. The best players are players that have good all round play as well have won numerous trophies for the club.
If you want to judge by just goals to be the best player, then his goal tally looks miserable when you compare with Ian Rush which has scored 340++ goals for his club, plus winning everything that is capable of being won as a club player. From NUMEROUS League trophies, League Cups, FA Cups, European Cups/Champions League, and UEFA Cup(you must remember those that got 2nd in the league fought for this). Now when Henry has just scored 200++ goals, won a couple of League trophies, an FA Cup or 2, and?
Then if you look at the more recent times, Roy Keane has won everything as well in club level, how can you say Henry is the best? He is among the best I would agree, but with no European trophies to show...and a goal scoaring tally thats decent but by no means the greatest, how can morons like you come and say he's the best in this country EVER?
Thats why everyone else considers you a bunch of jokes..
If you want to go into what makes one cheat worse than the other, then that is up to you to discuss, but I for one am admitting as an Arsenal fan that Henry DID cheat...and am just saying that if one says he did or he didnt cheat, that is fine...but as long as people and the media, especially, DONT BE HYPOCRITES and are consistant with their convictions...and treat every cheating incident as the same and say cheating is bad...think of the kids that are watching the world cup or England match...and they see IAN WRIGHT ranting on about how Gerrard was right to dive...
EXCUSE MY LANGUAGE...BUT WHAT BOLLUCKS IS THAT...those same kids are the future England players and if they think it is ok to cheat and dive, then in 10-20 years time our England team will be as bad as any other team in the world.
Anyway enough of that, England play today, Argentina is out...COME ON ENGLAND
Something has to be done about this. We deserve to go to SOuth Africa
