    Iam afraid the author is being a little too presumptious in the respect that Arsenal demanded £20 million for Ashley which no club was prepared to match,infact the closest Chelsea got to matching that bid was £15 approx prior to the deadline day so on that basis Arsenal have sold a wantaway greedy thick wanker and got in return a class central defender who can also play at left back and £5 million into the bargain,so if you were to take the best offer for Cole and take £5 million we have paid £10 million for Gallas which is cheap considering WBA wanted the same for an inexperienced defender.

    Following the Cole/Gallas swap sources close to the club maintained that they actually got more like £10m plus Gallas. I think that they were getting at the probable fact that Chelski had to pay up Cole's bonus, transfer percentage, Gallas' transfer percentage and the agents fees. AFC got a clear £5m which is the headline figure but because they didn't have to meet the other costs the value to them was nearer £10m.

    Hang on.... What if Cole was worth £25m or what if he was 20 million Euro's
    (I can just see the veins popping out in this tossers head right now)
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
    Gallas did not cost Arsenal anything as we received £5 million and swapped Ashley for him so how on earth the author based his maths on the presumption that we would have received £20 milllion for Cole is beyond me....ie why not value him at the £30 million David Dein reputedly wanted to charge CFC foer his services and then Gallas cost us a whopping £25 million ......do you get it now.

    I think livingston is probably the most stupid person ever to have graced this planet.

    but what is the average decent left back actually worth? It sure aint £25m, that was an inflated price because we knew Chelsea were interested. Cole was probably worth more like the £16m that his buy out clause suggested.
    Is Gallas worth £11m? Hell yes. have you seen him play? wasn't ferdinand sold for £28m or something? furthermore he is worth £11m because it weakens the opposition as well as strengthens us, its a bit like a 6 pointer.

    Most Gooners I ask think Gallas is a better player than Cole anyway, so a swap plus £5m seems more than fair. The only difference then is the age of the two players.

    no...u cunts n morons....gallas is worth 15 mil n 20 cents....here is the maths.

    x= 20 mil for cuntley cole

    y= 5 million received for gala

    z= 20cents for livingstone

    now u guess the formula....

    The reason we only got £5m for Cashley was that there was a clause in his contract whereby he was owed a bonus (I think it was a loyalty bonus ...lol)This bonus was in fact paid by Chelski , hence the low figure of £5m

    This is brilliant, i think exposing Livingstone as a moron is especially funny given the rude and arrogant way in which he 1st disagreed. However I doubt we would be reduced to this level of debate if the transfer window hadnt cut off all reasonable debate. How about a post on the upcoming game with Manure?? Could be a big one. A win could restore confidence, but a loss could stitch us right up. I didn't see alot of difference between last nights performance and the other games, apart from we got an early goal, they had to attack and it gives us some more space. Of course there is always the matter of 10 men. We need to go at teams for the first 25 mins and look for a goal otherwise we are looking at the same old story. Good sunday for football coming up!

    how dare u all, u know what i meant, gallas plus 5mill means cole is worth 10 mill, so if arsenal get gallas and chelsea gets cole, then we get gallas then 5 mill plus the transfer of gallas and the transfer of cole then arsenal get 5 mill and chelsea get cole and arsenal get 10 mill and chelsea get cole then

    buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. i have to be very honest my fellow gooners. my name is stevo and i saw livingstone_get_losts's comment and it had me in stitches and just thought i'd have a buzz and make him seem even stupider by puttin in the 2nd comment, little did i know it would get its own article and a wealth of response, i must thank u all for having me on my back laughing again!!

    I'd look at this another way, and use it to find Ashley Cole's value, not Gallas'...

    Cash = £5m

    Gallas = World class CB/FB/R/L/C with one year left on his contract but at a team who doesn't have to sell him if they don't want to. Cannavoro was c£5m but from a relegated Juve, Stam was £10.5m and a few years ago, thus Gallas' market value is around £9m to my mind (Last year of contract vs. Chelsea not needing to sell)...

    Therefore Cole has been valued by the market at around the £14m mark, which is quiet realistic given his book, the 2 years on his contract and the fact that he's a one position wonder.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
    i heard some where it 14 million in 2 installments an 5 million for gallas i also read somwhere we made a 5 million bid for him before and a guy who has jus a year on his contract for 15 million sounds abit steep
  • loveday · 3 years ago
    you can not say gallas was worth 15 million because if you think about it he was not getting on to well with jose mourinio and ashley cole was not getting on to well with wengetr because he was on the bench but chelsea wanted him and we wanted gall so we had to take chelsea offer becase it was the last of the transfer market and then they would have had to wait till january so gallas and cole are worth more and the deal to me was a gain for both teams
